The first Digital Organization Design STARLab took place on August 1-2, 2018 in Santa Clara, CA. Eight multinational corporations participated in the session averaging a cross section of 4 – 5 business, technology, human resources and organization design people from each company. The STARLab was the first design session of two in a year-long learning experience that allows participants and subject matter experts to collectively explore and prototype practical and innovative responses to digitalization.
Sponsors for the design lab were the Center for Creative Leadership, USC Marshall School of Business’ Center for Effective Organizations, and the SPRING Network. Innovation Resource Center for Human Resources (IRC4HR) is our research funding partner for this year long learning journey.
On September 26 – 27, 2017 a cross section of over forty business leaders, organization practitioners, academics and researchers came together to address the challenge of designing and leading organizations that will optimize and align the social and technical aspects of future organizations. The purpose of this Organization of the Future Design Lab was to collectively identify the elements and design criteria of organizations and ecosystems of the future, and to stimulate new thinking and innovative methodologies, processes, and tools to advance the operating models and leadership requirements for these organizations and ecosystems.
Sponsors for the design lab were the Center for Creative Leadership, USC Marshall School of Business’ Center for Effective Organizations, and the SPRING Network. The learning from this initial design lab led to the formation of the STARLab Alliance, Inc.
